Q. What media do you work in?

A. I work in oil paints on stretched canvas or oil on basswood plaques.

Q. How long does it take to complete a painting?

A. Every painting is different and completion time depends on the complexity of the piece, how many subjects may be in it and what type of background. Some paintings come together very quickly, while others need more time. On the average, a medium size piece with a headstudy and a one color background, takes about one month.

Q. Do you work from photographs?

A. Yes. The majority of my paintings are done working from photographs. When selecting the photo you would like to have painted, I suggest that you choose your favourite one, not the greatest one technically perhaps, but one that has captured the expression you love the best.

Q. Can you work from a digital file?

A. I do prefer actual phototgraphs but will accept large digital files that have not been downsized and compressed for the internet.

Q. Can more than one subject be in the painting?

A. Yes, I can do multiple subject paintings. These require more planing and time to complete, of course.

Q. Am  I able to specify a background or setting I would like my pet in?

A. In most case I am able to do this, it all depends on what photos you have and their quality.

Q. Can I select my own frame?

A. Yes, you are welcome to frame your painting yourself but keep in mind the frame should be a background to the painting, not clash with it or overpower it. A frame makes or breaks a painting. You are welcome to use my experienced eye to frame it for you, if you like.

Q. How does a long distance commission work and what is the procedure for ordering and paying for a commission?

A. Once we make contact, you can send me your photo(s) for consideration. Photos can be sent through the net, but if I go ahead with the painting, I do require the actual photographs to work from. They allow me to see the fine detail and correct coloring. Once size and composition details are decided, I will give you the cost of the commission, excluding framing and shipping. One third of this price is required before I start the work. When it is finished to my satisfaction, I will photograph it and set it up on my server for you to see. Final revisions can be made here, if needed. These services are included in the commission cost. If you are fully pleased with it, you send the balance owed, and once I receive that, I will ship your painting.
